Officer Jeffrey Shelton, 35 years old, along with Officer Sean Clark were shot on Saturday, March 31st, 2007 and died from their wounds early the following morning. The officers had been conversing with a male in the parking lot of the Timber Ridge apartments when a scuffle ensued. The male pulled out a gun and shot both officers in the head.

The suspect, Demetrius Antonio Montgomery, was taken into custody the day after the shooting and charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

Officer Shelton, a 6 year veteran of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is survived by his wife Jennifer.
