John Fesperman, age 21, was killed by an unidentified male on the
Wakefield farm on Providence Road beyond Myers Park on Saturday night, February 16,
1924,
at 11:30 p.m. He was the son of former County Sheriff Victor Fesperman. Young Fesperman
was engaged with several Rural Officers in a raid on a house at the time. Officer
Fesperman was shot once through the left temple and died before he could be carried to
Presbyterian Hospital by his brother officers. With him at the time of the raid were Rural
Officers S. S. Rogers, John Gingham, and Howard Wilson.
John Fesperman had not been regularly employed as a rural officer, but was temporally
taking the place of Mose Hunter, who was ill. |
